Jigawa State Government’s Bold Step Towards Maternal Health Revitalization
In a bid to strengthen maternal health initiatives, the Jigawa State Government has inaugurated a twenty-three-member Technical Committee. Led by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Malam Bala Ibrahim, the committee’s primary objective is to revive and enhance the Safe Motherhood programme in the state.
Established in 2006 under a DFID development support programme called PATHS, the Safe Motherhood initiative addresses critical issues such as maternal and infant mortalities, Vesico Vaginal Fistula (VVF), and child nutrition. Central to this programme is the Emergency Transport Scheme, providing vital transportation for pregnant women facing obstetric emergencies.
Recognizing the importance of revitalizing this vital programme, Governor Umar Namadi’s administration has prioritized the strengthening of Safe Motherhood initiatives. Malam Bala Ibrahim emphasized the committee’s role in conducting technical reviews and developing implementation frameworks to enhance quality healthcare delivery.
Appointed members of the committee, drawn from various sectors, have expressed their commitment to the cause. Chairperson Barrister Hauwa Zakari, along with other dedicated professionals, pledged to leverage their expertise to save lives and promote maternal well-being in Jigawa State.
With a clear mandate and a team of passionate individuals, the Technical Committee on Safe Motherhood Initiative Demand is poised to make a significant impact on maternal healthcare outcomes in Jigawa.
