Kaduna State Enforces Compliance on Major Hotels to Strengthen Revenue for Development

The Kaduna State Government has reinforced its commitment to improving revenue generation through lawful tax enforcement, as demonstrated by the recent closure of Cloud-9 Lounge, Kyus Hotel, Sunshine Lodge, and Bayan Hotel in Kafanchan, Jama’a Local Government Area. The move was spearheaded by the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS), which revealed that these establishments were sealed due to N16.8 million in unpaid taxes.

Chairman of KADIRS, Jerry Adams, clarified that the action aligns with the provisions of the Personal Income Tax Act 2011 and the Kaduna State Tax Codification and Consolidation Law, 2020, following a court order. He emphasized that this was part of a broader effort by the government to ensure compliance with tax laws to fund the Governor’s ongoing infrastructure projects, including key developments in the education and health sectors.

Adams highlighted that the enforcement followed ample opportunities for the hotels to settle their tax obligations. He also stressed that while the state government remains empathetic to the current economic climate, major taxpayers must fulfill their responsibilities to enable the continuation of crucial projects that benefit the state’s citizens.

Governor Uba Sani’s administration, despite inherited challenges, continues to prioritize development across the state. Through initiatives like this, the Kaduna Government aims to ensure that necessary funds are available to support infrastructure, rural roads, education, and health improvements.
