Kaduna State Seals Electricity Distribution Company Over Unpaid Tax
The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) has taken decisive action against the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) by sealing its premises over an outstanding N600 million tax liability. This operation was executed following a court order aimed at enforcing compliance from KAEDCO, which has accumulated this debt from 2015 to 2022.
Jerry Adams, the Executive Chairman of KADIRS, addressed the press after the early Friday morning exercise, emphasizing the company’s failure to honor its commitment to pay a substantial portion of the tax liability despite reconciliations and agreements made last year.
“We are backed by the law to seal and take over their premises in order to ensure compliance, and that is what we executed this morning,” Adams stated. He urged other businesses, individuals, and corporate organizations to ensure voluntary compliance with tax obligations to avoid similar enforcement actions.
