Kaduna State to Prosecute Islamic Teacher for Alleged Assault on Almajiri Student
The Kaduna state government announced its intention to file criminal charges against Malam Nura, an Islamic teacher, for allegedly brutalizing an 11-year-old almajiri student, Isah Muazu. Governor Uba Sani expressed concern over the incident, stating that there is no part of the Qur’an advocating for the dehumanizing treatment of children. The government plans to bring back all Kaduna indigenes from almajiri schools in Niger state and provide free education under a better Tsangaya system in Kaduna. The governor emphasized a zero-tolerance policy for child abuse in the name of religious education.
