Katsina State Government and UNDP to Co-host Northwest Security Summit
The Katsina State Government, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP), has announced plans to organize a peace and security summit for the northwest region in Katsina. The Secretary to the Government of Katsina State, Abdullahi Garba Faskari, revealed this during the inauguration of a joint planning committee for the summit. Faskari will lead the 14-member committee, which includes key officials from the state government and a representative from UNDP.
The theme of the summit, “Security Livelihood, Building Resilience and Promoting Peace and Security: Addressing the Nexus of Banditry, Extremism and Climate Change in North-West Nigeria,” underscores the multifaceted approach required to tackle the security challenges facing the region. With the northwest zone grappling with rising insecurity and banditry, the summit aims to address these issues comprehensively.
The northwest region comprises seven states, namely Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Jigawa. Over recent years, these states have experienced significant security challenges, with Kaduna, Katsina, and Zamfara being particularly affected by terrorist activities and banditry. The summit presents an opportunity for stakeholders to collaborate and develop effective strategies to restore peace and security in the region.
