Katsina State Government Responds to Banditry Resurgence in Eight LGAs
The Katsina State Government has addressed the resurgence of banditry in eight local government areas (LGAs) of the state, attributing it to the desperate actions of criminals under intense pressure from security forces. Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal provided insights during a press conference in Katsina, emphasizing that security operations have confined the bandits to specific areas.
Lawal assured the people of Katsina State of ongoing efforts to combat banditry with increased intensity. He highlighted a recent encounter in Burdugau forest, where security forces engaged approximately 200 bandits, resulting in casualties on both sides. Despite challenges, the government remains committed to restoring peace in frontline LGAs sharing borders with Rugu forest.
Acknowledging significant progress since the administration took office, Lawal noted the reduction in affected LGAs from 22 to 8, thanks to sustained government commitment and collaboration with security agencies. Over 50 abducted persons have been rescued, underscoring the government’s determination to safeguard lives and property.
Lawal urged residents to support security efforts by reporting individuals involved in aiding criminal activities, including the sale of pre-registered SIM cards and the supply of provisions to bandits. He emphasized the importance of timely and accurate information to facilitate prompt government and security responses.
