In a proactive move to enhance peace and prosperity in the border regions, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafidan Kabi, the Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, has urged the National Boundary Commission and Security Officials to collaborate in addressing cross-border conflicts and terrorism. This call to action occurred during a one-day workshop attended by counterparts from Sokoto, Katsina, and Jigawa States, focusing on local border authorities and traditional rulers along the Nigeria-Niger international boundary.

The Deputy Governor, also Chairman of the State Border Committee, emphasized the need for a platform to address trans-border security challenges, boundary location conflicts, and the development of cross-border economic projects. He reaffirmed Kebbi State’s commitment to complementing the National Boundary Commission’s efforts, fostering better cross-border relations and socioeconomic development in border communities.

The workshop witnessed commendations from other regional Deputy Governors and state representatives, expressing support for the National Boundary Commission’s initiative aimed at improving the lives of people living in Nigeria-Niger border communities. They recognized the potential of this platform to serve as an implementing vehicle for decisions and policies of the Border Governors’ Forum. The leaders collectively addressed the challenges of banditry and other issues affecting the socioeconomic conditions of border communities, emphasizing the importance of collective commitment to ending these problems.

The workshop, organized by the National Boundary Commission in collaboration with Sokoto State Government, centered on the theme “Transforming Borders From Barriers of Separation To Bridges of Cooperation and Integration,” and saw participation from various regional authorities.
