Kebbi Government Swiftly Accesses UBEC Funds After Prompt Counterpart Payment

The Executive Chairman of the Kebbi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Sulaiman Khalid, has debunked media reports claiming the state failed to access N1.39 billion from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). He clarified that Governor Nasir Idris had already approved the payment of the required counterpart funds, enabling the state to fully access its allocated resources.

Prof. Khalid explained that the misreporting stemmed from confusion about the 2023 Federal Government Statutory Allocation of the UBE Matching Grant. He highlighted that Kebbi State deposited its counterpart fund of N1.39 billion into the SUBEB account by May 2024, and UBEC matched the payment in July 2024, ensuring a total of N2.79 billion available for educational projects.

The funds will be allocated to various initiatives such as new constructions, renovations, furniture, equipment, and water supply projects, among others. Khalid assured that the state was committed to transparency and invited civil society organizations to monitor the projects’ implementation. He reiterated Kebbi State’s dedication to providing quality education for all its children.
