Kebbi State Government Acknowledges Resignation of Chief Imam, Affirms Commitment to Religious Harmony
The Kebbi State Government has officially accepted the resignation of Sheikh Rufa’i Ibrahim, the Chief Imam of the historic Wala Mosque in Birnin Kebbi. Muhammad Sani-Aliyu, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, announced this development during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday.
Addressing speculations surrounding the resignation, Commissioner Sani-Aliyu clarified that Sheikh Ibrahim resigned on personal grounds, which were duly accepted by the local government council and approved by the state government.
He dismissed claims of monetary disputes as unfounded, affirming Governor Idris’s commitment to supporting religious leaders amid economic challenges. Additionally, Commissioner Yakubu Ahmad-Birnin-Kebbi emphasized that the resignation was not politically motivated and urged respect for the Imam’s decision.
The government reaffirmed its dedication to religious harmony and tolerance, stressing the importance of mutual respect and understanding in the community. With the appointment of an acting Chief Imam, the government looks forward to maintaining the spiritual integrity of the Wala Mosque while promoting unity among residents.
