Kwara Assembly Endorses N509.8bn Budget to Drive State Development
The Kwara State House of Assembly has demonstrated its unwavering support for the state’s development by approving a Supplementary Appropriation Budget of N509.8 billion. The approval, which took place during Thursday’s plenary session, underscores the government’s commitment to advancing infrastructure and capital projects across the state.
The budget report was presented by Arinola Lawal, Chairperson of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, representing Ilorin East Constituency. Lawal passionately called on her colleagues to endorse the budget, emphasizing its critical role in the progress and prosperity of Kwara State.
“This budget is crucial for the progress of our state, and I urge you all to support its passage,” Lawal stated, rallying support for the development-focused initiative.
Following a majority voice vote in favor of the budget, Speaker Yakubu Danlad-Salihu announced its passage, instructing the Clerk of the Assembly to prepare a clean copy of the bill for Governor Abdul Rahman AbdulRazaq’s assent. The Governor had earlier submitted a bill on July 23, 2024, seeking a revised Supplementary Estimate of N201 billion. While the Governor did not specify the reasons in his letter, it is widely believed that the revision aligns with the federal government’s recent approval of a new minimum wage of N70,000.
This strategic budget approval marks a significant milestone in Kwara State’s journey toward enhanced infrastructure and economic growth, reinforcing the government’s dedication to the well-being of its citizens.
