Kwara Government Reiterates Commitment to Fair Collection of Personal Income Tax

The Kwara State Internal Revenue Services (Kw-IRS) has reaffirmed its dedication to collecting personal income tax and other revenues in compliance with federal laws, emphasizing a non-discriminatory approach. Funmilola Oguntunbi, Head of Corporate Affairs, issued a statement from Ilorin, stressing that the agency operates without any ethnic, religious, or group bias in its revenue generation activities.

The statement addressed allegations of victimization of Igbo traders, labeling them as false and targeting ethnic sentiment to garner undue public sympathy. It refuted claims published by the International Centre for Investigative Reporting on July 31, 2024, against Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Kw-IRS.

“We believe this false narrative originated from members of the Kwara State Igbo Traders Association (KWAITA), which recently filed a legal action against the Service on July 12, 2024, over the same issue. This media publication twist is in bad faith,” the statement read.

Kw-IRS clarified that at no time did Governor AbdulRazaq instruct the Service to victimize or act discriminatorily based on religion, ethnicity, or social identity. The agency maintains its commitment to equitable revenue collection practices.
