KWARA MAIZE PRICE PLUNGES FOLLOWING GOVERNMENT’S SUBSIDIZED DISTRIBUTION

0

In a significant development, the price of maize in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, experiences a notable decline following the government’s subsidized distribution to farmers. The state government, in collaboration with the pressure group Kwara Must Change, distributed palliative maize to small and medium-scale farmers at reduced rates.

Livestock farmers, the primary consumers of maize for feed, redirect their resources to benefit from the government’s subsidized maize. This redistribution leads to a drop in maize prices, with a kilogram now selling for N400 as opposed to the previous N600.

Unlike previous distributions, the current initiative ensures targeted beneficiaries receive the palliative maize directly, eliminating previous challenges. Beneficiaries commend the government for reaching out to genuine small-scale farmers and urge the retention of this transparent distribution pattern.
