Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has taken a proactive step to ensure fair compensation for all categories of workers by approving the formation of a tripartite committee to address the consequential adjustment component of the newly set national minimum wage of N70,000.

The committee, chaired by the Head of Service and co-chaired by the Commissioner for Finance, includes representatives from the state government, labor centers, and the organized private sector. The Director (Establishment and Pension) serves as the Secretary, ensuring the committee’s operations run smoothly.

In addition to the Commissioner for Finance, the committee comprises key figures such as the Commissioners for Budget & Planning, Works and Transports, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Communications, and other senior officials including the Senior Adviser and Counselor to the Governor, and the Permanent Secretaries for Finance, Service Welfare, and Justice. The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Labor Matters also plays a pivotal role.

Labor representation is strong, with the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Chairman of the Joint Negotiation Council (JNC), Chairman of COHESU, and the Secretary of the JNC participating. The private sector is well-represented by the Kwara Chamber of Commerce (KWACCIMA), the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, and the Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises.

This diverse and inclusive committee structure highlights Governor AbdulRazaq’s commitment to equitable wage adjustments that will benefit a broad spectrum of workers in the state.
