Kwara State Government Addresses Gastroenteritis Concerns, Confirms No Cholera Outbreak
The Kwara State Government has officially addressed the concerns surrounding a rumored cholera outbreak, confirming instead cases of gastroenteritis. This announcement was made by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, during a press briefing held at the Emergency Operation Center of the State Ministry of Health in Ilorin.
Dr. El-Imam reassured the public that the state government has activated its outbreak response mode, involving all relevant ministries to monitor and manage the situation effectively. She emphasized, “The state’s surveillance team is actively working to prevent further spread of the disease. The present administration has deployed all necessary equipment and qualified professionals to prevent a possible outbreak.”
Highlighting the importance of public cooperation, Dr. El-Imam urged residents to maintain good health practices, including keeping their environment clean, proper hand washing, boiling water before drinking, and ensuring food safety at all times. These measures are crucial in preventing any potential health crises.
She further disclosed that although there were a few suspected cases of cholera, rapid diagnostic tests ruled out cholera but confirmed gastroenteritis, which unfortunately resulted in one casualty. The remaining patients are responding well to treatment.
Dr. El-Imam concluded by reassuring the public that the situation is under control, alleviating fears and emphasizing the government’s commitment to public health and safety.
