Kwara State Government’s Proactive Steps towards Agricultural Prosperity
The Kwara State Government has convened a vital meeting with key stakeholders and the State Working Committee to enhance agricultural productivity and food security across the state.
In a strategic move to bolster food production, the State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, emphasized the significance of the Committee in driving agricultural growth and ensuring food security.
Represented by his Deputy, Mr. Kayode Alabi, the Governor outlined the Committee’s responsibilities, ranging from policy formulation to monitoring and evaluation of farmers, with a focus on transforming challenges into opportunities for a thriving, food-secure state.
Under the leadership of the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Thomas, the Committee aligns its objectives with the National Agricultural Growth Scheme (NAGS), aimed at empowering small-scale farmers and enhancing food and nutrition security.
Highlighting the partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB), Mrs. Thomas disclosed the allocation of 3600 hectares for maize, rice, and cassava cultivation, emphasizing the Committee’s role in ensuring adherence to AfDB guidelines.
Moreover, the selection of genuine farmers is paramount to guaranteeing a successful yield and fostering accountability within the agricultural sector, as emphasized by Mrs. Thomas.
Alhaji Dr. Abdullahi Aliyu, representing the traditional council and serving as the Etsu of Tsaragi, lauded the government’s initiative, affirming the unwavering support of traditional rulers in promoting youth employment and program success through their active involvement in farming.
With these collaborative efforts and proactive measures, Kwara State is poised for agricultural prosperity and sustained food security, signaling a promising future for its citizens.
