Lagos Free Medical Outreach “Alaafia Eko” Returns
The Lagos State Government is relaunching its free medical outreach program, “Alaafia Eko,” on August 20, 2024. This initiative, which aims to provide comprehensive healthcare services to over 50,000 residents, will be held at 12 designated centres across the state’s six health districts.
The first phase of “Alaafia Eko,” which took place on May 30, 2024, offered free medical check-ups, treatment, medication, and health insurance packages. The program is part of the Eko Cares initiative, designed to mitigate economic hardships faced by residents. Other Eko Cares programs include “Ounjè Eko,” which reduced food prices by 25%, and a 25% fare cut on government transportation services.
Special Adviser on Health, Dr. (Mrs.) Kemi Ogunyemi, announced that the outreach was temporarily paused due to a cholera outbreak but will resume at the designated centres across the six health districts. Services at the outreach will include blood sugar and blood pressure checks, treatment for minor ailments, free medications, HIV counselling and testing, eye exams, and health talks.
Residents are encouraged to visit their nearest centre starting at 9 am to benefit from the services. Additionally, beneficiaries can register for the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) card at the outreach locations.
