Lagos State Announces Traffic Diversion for Safe Demolition of Ikeja Pedestrian Bridge
The Lagos State government has announced a planned traffic diversion at Ikeja Along Bus Stop on the Oshodi-bound lane between Ile Zik and Conoil Petrol Station, scheduled for midnight to 4:00 am on August 17th and 18th, 2024. This diversion is necessary to facilitate the safe demolition of an old pedestrian bridge in the area.
According to a statement released by Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the demolition will be carried out by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA). During this period, only one lane will be available for vehicles in the affected area to ensure safety.
The Commissioner emphasized that this traffic management plan is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure while minimizing disruption to motorists. The diversion will be confined to the Oshodi-bound lane, ensuring that traffic flow towards Dopemu and Abule Egba remains unaffected.
To manage expected traffic congestion, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will have a strong presence on-site, guiding motorists and ensuring smooth traffic flow. Protective measures, including jersey barriers and nets, will be in place to safeguard both motorists and pedestrians during the demolition process.
Mr. Osiyemi called for public cooperation during this period, stressing that these precautions are vital for the safe and efficient execution of the project. He assured the public that the Lagos State government is committed to enhancing infrastructure while prioritizing the safety and convenience of all road users.
