Lagos State Government Aims to Empower 100,000 Residents through Innovative Programs

The Lagos State Government has launched an ambitious initiative to empower over 100,000 residents with the necessary skills to thrive in the evolving job market. The “Empower Lagos Programme” was introduced by Mr. Sam Egube, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor of Lagos State, who emphasized the government’s commitment to equipping residents for the workforce and enhancing employment opportunities.
As part of this initiative, the state is establishing a comprehensive database aimed at improving employment prospects and helping artisans adapt to new technologies. This database will support artisans in tapping into global business opportunities. Additionally, an online platform is set to be launched soon, providing a marketplace where artisans can connect with clients, thereby fostering commerce within the sector.
Hon. Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, the State Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, announced the upcoming inauguration of the Lagos Leather Hub near the Mushin Leather Market. This hub will serve as a center for skill development, providing artisans with the necessary tools and infrastructure to excel in their businesses. The Empower Lagos Initiative is expected to create sustainable wealth for at least 10,000 beneficiaries across various industries, with each beneficiary responsible for training at least 10 others, ultimately impacting over 100,000 residents within 36 months.
The initiative also includes a specialized employability skills program, targeting a minimum of 3,000 first-degree graduates. This program will cover essential topics such as career development, entrepreneurship, communication skills, teamwork, and problem-solving, aiming to bridge skills gaps and promote economic growth in Lagos State.
