Lagos State Government Champions Cultural Renaissance through Annual World Egbe Festival

The Lagos State Government, led by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, reaffirms its steadfast commitment to nurturing local cultural festivals throughout the State. This dedication forms a vital part of the administration’s vision to invigorate the indigenous culture, traditions, and heritage of Lagosians while also enticing investors to explore the diverse tourist attractions within Lagos.

Hon. Idris Aregbe, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, emphasized this support during his address at the 11th Annual World Egbe Festival, held at the picturesque Suntan Beach, Lagos. Represented by Mr. Idowu Johnson, CEO of the Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture, Aregbe expressed satisfaction with the festival’s organization, noting a surge in tourist attendance.

The event not only showcased the rich cultural tapestry of Lagos but also served as a platform for promoting unity among people of varying beliefs. The State Government pledges continued backing for the World Egbe Cultural Festival, highlighting its significance in celebrating Lagos’ ancient heritage as the “State of Aquatic Splendour.”

Acknowledging the State Government’s support, Oba Ariwajoye Fasagbade of Akoko Land lauded its role in ensuring the festival’s success over recent years, emphasizing its encouragement to organizers. Participants from around the globe, including Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago, and Cuba, converged to celebrate this universal festival, featuring vibrant displays such as the Miss Culture World Beauty pageant and traditional dances like the Zagbeto masquerade and Sato drums, emblematic of Badagry’s indigenous cultural heritage.
