Lagos State Partners with U.S. Institute to Boost Project Management Efficiency
Lagos State Government has forged a partnership with the U.S.-based Project Management Institute (PMI) to enhance project management across 45 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu oversaw the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the State House in Marina.
The partnership aims to optimize resources and improve the management of 1,830 ongoing capital projects in Lagos. Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of the partnership in the face of global economic disruptions and high material costs. He highlighted the need for strategic resource allocation and validated project management strategies to ensure timely project delivery.
The MoU, signed by the Project Implementation and Monitoring Unit (PIMU) and PMI, will bring advanced skills, knowledge sharing, and training to Lagos, aiming to enhance project management practices and improve efficiency. PMI’s expertise is expected to help the state deliver projects within budget, scope, and timeframe, while fostering professional competence in the public sector.
In conjunction with the capital projects, Lagos State also plans to construct 31 bus shelters along the Igando to Iyana-Iba axis as part of the Quality Bus Corridor (QBC) project package 3. This initiative will include the development of a new bus terminal and depot at Iyana-Iba and an upgrade to the existing bus terminal at Igando, aiming to enhance public transportation infrastructure and commuting experience.
