Lagos to Host Over 80 Artists at 4th Lagos Biennial
The fourth edition of the Lagos Biennial, themed ‘REFUGE,’ will see over 80 artists from 30 countries exhibiting at Tafawa Balewa Square. Founded in 2017 by Àkéte Art Foundation, the event aims to reflect on political allegiance, territory, sovereignty, belonging, encounter, and alliance. Kathryn Weir, co-Artistic director, emphasizes sections such as Gregarious Architectures, CAPTCHA, and Worldmade Communities. The director, Folakunie Oshun, highlights the Biennial’s role in scrutinizing Nigeria’s history, reflecting on economic and political conditions. The event encourages unconventional exhibition models and prototypes.
