Lagos Tops Climate Governance Performance Ranking
Lagos State has emerged as the top performer in Nigeria’s Climate Governance Performance Ranking, earning 182 points. The ranking, conducted by the Society for Planet and Prosperity (SPP) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Environment, assessed the 36 states on criteria such as climate institutions, policy implementation, and online visibility. Lagos’ achievement reflects its commitment to climate action across various sectors, including transport, agriculture, energy, and waste management. The state’s proactive approach, including partnerships with international organizations like the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, has positioned it as a leader in climate governance. Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources Tokunbo Wahab credited the success to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s visionary leadership and the state’s dedication to creating a sustainable future.
