The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has urged producers, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders in the food supply chain to register all consumable food products with the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administrative Control (NAFDAC). General Manager Afolabi Solebo emphasized the importance of genuine and comprehensive information display on consumable products in supermarkets and grocery stores.

Solebo’s call comes in response to concerns about the presence and sales of unregistered and insufficiently labeled food products, posing risks to public health. He particularly highlighted the risks associated with unregistered dairy products and derivatives. LASCOPA urged businesses to exercise due diligence in ensuring products are registered and display critical information, including NAFDAC Number, Production and Expiry dates.

While appreciating business growth in the state, LASCOPA emphasized the need to protect consumers’ health by avoiding unsafe food offerings. The agency seeks to safeguard consumer interests without witch-hunting legitimate businesses. The focus remains on ensuring public safety and promoting responsible business practices.
