LASG Vows to Reduce Unemployment of Post-NYSC Graduates
The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing youth unemployment through the Graduate Internship Placement Programme (GIPP), a key component of its broader strategy to enhance skills acquisition among post-NYSC graduates.
At a press conference held at the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, Commissioner Hon. Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe outlined the objectives of the GIPP, which is part of the ‘EMPOWER LAGOS’ Initiative aimed at uplifting 10,000 Lagosians from poverty. The program seeks to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical work experience, thereby improving graduates’ employability.
Ajigbotafe explained that the GIPP involves a comprehensive three-week training module covering crucial areas such as career planning, job searching, business start-up basics, and professionalism. Following this training, graduates will be placed in internships with partnering organizations for three months, providing them with hands-on experience and potential job opportunities in the private sector.
The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with partners and donor agencies, will provide stipends to support beneficiaries during their training and internships. Ajigbotafe urged stakeholders to support the State Government’s initiatives under the THEMES Plus Agenda of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to boost Lagos State’s socio-economic development.
The briefing was attended by notable figures including Mr. Innocent Osaghe, Managing Director of Human Capital Partners (HCP), and Mr. Adeyinka Adeyemi, Managing Director of Intermac Consulting, among others.
