N-HYPPADEC’s Comprehensive Water Supply Rehabilitation in New Bussa

The Niger State Government, in collaboration with the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Area Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), is set to commission a comprehensive water supply rehabilitation program at New Bussa’s water works in Borgu Local Government Area on July 31, 2024.

The N-HYPPADEC interventions include:

– Rehabilitation of intake and high lift pump stations.

– Supply and installation of two low lift submersible pump sets.

– Rehabilitation of intake platforms.

– Installation of new high lift pumps and valves at intake and filter units.

– Provision of a Toyota Hilux project vehicle and five Bajaj motorcycles.

– Upgrading water treatment facilities and equipping a water quality laboratory.

– Cleaning and maintaining a 1,000m³ water tank.

– Desilting, cleaning, refelting, and disinfecting water works facilities.

– Installing water backwash pumps, air blowers, and chemical dosing pumps.

– Establishing a new booster station and constructing a galvanized iron tank.

Additionally, the project includes the extension of the distribution network in 15 locations, covering seven kilometers with DN 150mm UPVC water pipes. The renovated duty staff quarters, complete with fencing, will also be commissioned.

This intervention aims to enhance the ten-million-liter water distribution reservoir supply to New Bussa and its environs, significantly improving water availability and quality. The project has stockpiled 270 metric tons of aluminum sulphate, 164 drums of calcium hypochlorite, and 20 metric tons of soda ash to ensure continued water treatment.
