Niger State Government Facilitates Farmers’ Access to Carbon Credit Funds
The government of Niger State unveiled plans to support 2,500 farmers in accessing carbon credit-free funds from the Federal Government to enhance food production.
Dr. Mathew Ahmed, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, disclosed this during the launch of this year’s wet season farming in Minna.
Ahmed explained that the initiative aims to assist farmers in improving soil carbon absorption, thereby boosting crop development. The government will collaborate with a company to facilitate access to these funds, aiding farmers in soil analysis and agricultural activities.
Additionally, Alhaji Shehu Galadima, Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in the state, announced intentions to mobilize one million farmers for wet season farming. This ambitious plan seeks to engage farmers in cultivating ten different crops, emphasizing food and cash crops, to bolster agricultural productivity in Niger State.
