Niger State’s Remarkable Agricultural Partnership: A Blueprint for Agricultural Revolution
In an exceptional move towards agricultural rejuvenation, the Niger State Government, led by Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, has forged a groundbreaking partnership with the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Niger State Chapter, through a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at the Government House in Minna.
The agreement, endorsed by Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Musa Bawa Bosso, and AFAN Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Galadima, ushers in a transformative dry season farming initiative. The state is generously providing 550,000 hectares of land to empower 35,000 farmers, aiming to produce three million tonnes of food. To support this initiative, the State Government is investing N30 billion in inputs, affirming its commitment to revolutionize the agricultural landscape.
Governor Umaru Bago, hailed as the ‘Farmer Governor’, views this agreement as a pivotal milestone towards transitioning the state from reliance on civil service to mechanized farming. The government is investing a staggering five billion dollars in mechanization, intending to ship 300 tractors and other farm equipment to the state. Emphasizing the government’s commitment to security, Governor Bago assured AFAN of safeguarding farmlands, ensuring a conducive environment for productive agricultural activities.
AFAN Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Galadima, expressed gratitude to Governor Umaru Bago for his visionary agricultural reforms, emphasizing the positive transformation witnessed in the sector under his administration. The signed agreement is poised to convert farming into a thriving business venture, positively impacting the state’s economy.
