Ogun State Government Takes Firm Stand Against Environmental Pollution, to Sanction Seven Companies
In a decisive move to protect the environment and ensure the well-being of its citizens, the Ogun State Government has announced plans to sanction seven companies for their involvement in environmental pollution. These companies, located in Veepee Avenue, Sango Ota, within the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, were found guilty of discharging untreated effluents into the community.
The companies, which include Purechem Manufacturing Limited, Olympic Inks/Salient Industries, Ecomed Pharmaceuticals Limited, Nigerian Distilleries Limited, Industrial Mineral Products, Bhumee Inks Limited, and Classic Soap Industries Nigeria Limited, were identified following a thorough investigation by the Ogun State Ministry of Environment. The investigation, conducted between June 14 and 19, 2024, revealed that these companies were discharging harmful waste into the Ten Acres Association Community, posing significant environmental risks.
The Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency, through a statement posted on X.com, disclosed that the companies are set to face stern sanctions. These measures will include mandatory treatment of their effluents before discharge and ensuring they are channeled into the agreed gorge within the community. The state’s proactive stance demonstrates its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the environment and holding polluters accountable.
The investigation’s findings and recommendations, compiled by the Director of Inspection and Compliance Monitoring, Osinaike, have been submitted to the Special Adviser to the Governor, Oluwadare Kehinde, for approval. This action reinforces the Ogun State Government’s resolve to maintain a clean and healthy environment for all residents, setting a precedent for environmental responsibility.
