In a strategic move to bolster revenue from driver’s licenses, the Ogun State Government, through its Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS), is set to partner with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in a new initiative named “Operation Show Me Your Driver’s License.” This collaboration was proposed by the Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Akinwunmi Fasakin, during a recent courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of OGIRS, Mr. Olugbenga Olaleye.

Mr. Fasakin commended OGIRS for its existing relationship with the FRSC and highlighted the need for more stringent enforcement of driver’s license regulations. He pointed out that many car owners in Ogun State currently operate without valid licenses, leading to reduced road tax revenue. To address this, the FRSC will soon launch an enforcement exercise that requires all drivers to visit OGIRS to ensure their licenses are up-to-date and to clear existing backlogs.

In response, Mr. Olaleye expressed full support for the initiative, emphasizing OGIRS’s commitment to collaborating with the FRSC in ensuring compliance with road safety regulations. He noted that this partnership aims to ensure all vehicle owners possess valid driver’s licenses, ultimately increasing revenue for state development. Additionally, OGIRS has implemented its own public awareness campaigns, including radio and television programs, to remind citizens of their tax obligations.

Mr. Olaleye also called on the FRSC to expedite the issuance of driver’s licenses, addressing concerns about delays that have been affecting timely compliance. He reassured the public that this enforcement strategy is not intended to target individuals unfairly but to enhance national development through increased revenue collection.

Director of Other Taxes at OGIRS, Mrs. Oluyomi Dawodu, also expressed her appreciation for the collaboration and urged the FRSC to boost the production of number plates to ensure their availability for new car owners. The meeting was attended by key officials from both OGIRS and the FRSC, highlighting the strong cooperative spirit between the two organizations.
