Ogun State’s Strategic Contribution: 100 Hectares Allocated for Naval Base and Dockyard
In a significant boost to national security and economic development, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has allocated 100 hectares of land for the establishment of a naval base and dockyard. This forward-thinking move is part of the governor’s broader vision to position Ogun State as a key player in Nigeria’s emerging oil and gas industry.
Governor Abiodun presented the land allocation documents to the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, during a courtesy visit to the naval headquarters in Abuja. The governor highlighted that the collaboration with the Nigerian Navy is essential as Ogun State prepares to be declared an oil-producing state, following its recent attainment of frontier status by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited.
The governor emphasized the strategic importance of the naval base in safeguarding the state’s upcoming oil facilities and the broader economic investments. The allocation also supports ongoing projects, such as the Natural Gas Project and the LNG project, which are critical to the state’s economic growth. Governor Abiodun’s initiative ensures that Ogun State remains at the forefront of Nigeria’s industrial and economic advancements.
In response, Vice Admiral Ogalla expressed gratitude to the governor for the allocation, noting the strategic importance of Ogun State to the nation and the Nigerian Navy’s operations. He assured that the navy would expedite the establishment of the base to secure the state’s critical investments, further strengthening Ogun State’s position as an industrial hub. The collaboration between Ogun State and the Nigerian Navy is a testament to Governor Abiodun’s proactive leadership and commitment to the state’s long-term prosperity.
