Ondo Government to Implement N70,000 Minimum Wage
The Ondo State government has committed to implementing a N70,000 minimum wage for state workers, aligning with the federal government’s recent approval. This announcement was made by the State Head of Service, Bayo Phillip, in Akure, the state capital.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has assured that his administration will uphold the national minimum wage approved by President Bola Tinubu. Phillip emphasized the governor’s dedication to the welfare of the state workforce, highlighting Ondo State’s proactive approach. “Ondo State was the first to pay the Thirty-Five Thousand Naira Wage Award to its workers, and we extended this payment beyond the initially stipulated six months,” Phillip noted.
The initiative also includes retirees and workers in state-owned tertiary institutions, aiming to alleviate the current economic challenges faced by many. Phillip added, “Before the bill was assented to by the President, the Governor had given his word that Ondo State will pay whatever minimum wage is agreed upon and assented to by Mr. President.”
Phillip assured that the state is conducting all necessary preliminaries to ensure a swift implementation once the salary table details for the new minimum wage are available. “We will look at it, and I know, true to his promise, will implement it without delay,” he stated.
