Ondo State Empowers 150 Women with Home Gardening Training
In a significant move to enhance food security and self-sufficiency, the Ondo State Government has successfully trained over 150 women in a home gardening initiative, focusing on urban gardening techniques. This program, spearheaded by the State Ministry of Women Affairs in collaboration with the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Gender, aims to equip families with the skills needed for self-reliance.
The training took place at the Ondo State Ministry of Women Affairs, where women from across the state gathered to learn valuable skills in home-based gardening. The initiative, which marks the first phase of the sensitization program, is designed to address and alleviate hunger within households by teaching participants practical techniques for growing tomatoes and yams.
Lola Fagbemi, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, encouraged the participants to seize this opportunity as a means to combat food insecurity and enhance their family’s well-being. Her message was supported by Olamide Falana, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Gender, who underscored the importance of women actively engaging in agricultural practices.
The training provided by agricultural specialists covered essential techniques for effective home gardening, empowering the women to cultivate their own produce and contribute to their families’ nutritional needs. This initiative reflects Ondo State’s commitment to fostering self-sufficiency and supporting women in agricultural development.
