Ondo State Prioritizes Public Health: Community Outreach and Women’s Empowerment
The Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (OSPHCDA) is actively engaged in community outreach programs to enhance public health awareness and women’s empowerment across the state.
In a recent initiative, the OSPHCDA conducted a successful medical outreach and community sensitization campaign in Ibule-Soro. The campaign focused on raising awareness about vital health issues such as HPV vaccination and Lassa Fever prevention. The goal is to foster collective responsibility and collaboration within communities to promote these essential healthcare activities.
Additionally, as part of the celebration of International Women’s Day 2024, the OSPHCDA, in collaboration with various partners, embarked on mass awareness creation and health-promoting activities. The event included insightful speeches from esteemed guests, including Dr. Francis Adegoke Akanbiemu, the Permanent Secretary, and Dr. Dele Davies, the State Coordinator of the World Health Organization.
During the event, women were educated on the importance of HPV vaccination in preventing cervical cancer, with a commitment to introducing the vaccination program in May 2024. The OSPHCDA also provided free cervical cancer screening and family planning services to empower women with essential healthcare resources.
The celebration further extended to a road show along Oba Adesida road in Akure, where women enthusiastically participated, demonstrating the community’s strong support for women’s health initiatives. This collective effort underscores the state’s commitment to prioritizing public health and empowering its citizens.
