Ondo’s First Lady Commits to Empowering Women and Curbing Gender-Based Violence
Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the Wife of Ondo State Governor, reiterated her commitment to advocating for increased female representation in Nigeria’s political landscape during the 5th Foundation for Wives of Ondo State Officials (FOWOSO) Summit.
Anyanwu-Akeredolu emphasized her focus on elevating women’s economic status and strengthening homes through empowerment initiatives. She pledged to collaborate with the government to combat gender-based violence by enforcing the Violence Against Persons Prohibition’s law (VAPP) in Ondo State.
The summit, themed “Living A Life of Purpose,” aimed to inspire women to bridge the gender gap in politics and strive for growth and impact across all sectors. Guest lecturer Funke Adejumo encouraged women to equip themselves with knowledge, positioning themselves for appointive and elective positions.
Senator Jimoh Ibrahim stressed the need for women to intensify educational efforts, citing education as a critical factor in enhancing women’s participation and leadership in politics. Ibrahim’s donation of N20 million towards FOWOSO’s building project highlighted his commitment to empowering women through education and leadership opportunities.
