The Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) is excited to collaborate with Agbeladun Empowerment NGO to advance agricultural development in the region. This partnership aims to enhance local farming practices and support economic growth.

At a recent Tomato, Pepper, and Onion training program held at the Ilaje Civic Center in Igbokoda, Okitipupa Local Government Area, Princess Abike Bayo-Ilawole, Secretary of OSOPADEC, highlighted the importance of the initiative. Represented by Mr. Wale Mafolabomi, Director of Youths, Women Development and Poverty Alleviation, Bayo-Ilawole praised the training as a valuable opportunity for participants to explore crop production for both income generation and food security.

She emphasized that Ondo State has abundant land suitable for arable crops and that the region is particularly well-suited for early production of tomatoes, peppers, and onions during the dry season. Bayo-Ilawole expressed gratitude to Agbeladun Empowerment NGO for their efforts, affirming that OSOPADEC is committed to supporting the training’s goals.

Mr. Franklin Olusola Fadoju, Coordinator of Agbeladun, noted that this training is an extension of previous sessions held in the Central Senatorial District. The program will conclude next weekend with additional training for farmers in the Northern Senatorial District at Ikare. Fadoju underscored the NGO’s aim to complement state government efforts and enhance food security while addressing economic challenges.

Resource persons, including Mr. Abdulquadri Habeeb (Pepper) and Mr. Taiwo Ilawole (Tomato), encouraged participants to embrace farming and utilize the fertile land in Ondo State. They also advised on alternative farming methods, such as cultivating crops in bags of sand for those without traditional farms.

The training concluded with the distribution of tomato seedlings to participants, marking a successful collaboration in fostering agricultural development.
