Polio Eradication: Borno Embarks on a Mission to Vaccinate 2 Million Children
Under the visionary leadership of Governor Babagana Zulum, Borno State has joined hands with the World Health Organization (WHO) in a noble undertaking—a 10-day polio vaccination campaign spanning all 27 local government areas. This monumental effort is dedicated to safeguarding the health of over two million children throughout the state.
Professor Baba Gana, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services in Borno State, delivered an inspiring address at the campaign’s commencement. He disclosed that the vaccination teams would be strategically positioned at key locations, including schools, markets, orphanages, motor parks, and various public gatherings, ensuring accessibility to all.
Professor Gana emphasized the invaluable role played by traditional and religious leaders in realizing the campaign’s objectives. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to WHO for their unwavering support and commitment.
Dr. Moisule Ganga, the Acting Director for WHO in Borno State, voiced the organization’s dedication, stating, “The World Health Organization remains steadfast in its support for the state government in immunizing eligible children, even those residing in remote areas. Our goal is to eradicate any potential threat, including the wild poliovirus, and we are confident in achieving 100 percent success.”
