The Potiskum Livestock and Grains Market Dealers have praised Governor Mai Mala Buni for his intervention in restoring normalcy in Potiskum Local Government Area, following the disruption of market activities due to nationwide protests that turned violent.

Governor Buni’s Senior Special Assistant on Digital and Strategic Communications, Yusuf Ali, disclosed this in a statement on Monday. The commendation from the market dealers came as business operations resumed fully at the Sunday Livestock and Grains Market.

Malam Usman, a livestock dealer and resident of Potiskum, expressed gratitude to Governor Buni for his decisive action in maintaining law and order, stating, “Alhamdulillah we are back to our business in the market.”

Ali described the scene at the market, noting that dealers were actively trading livestock and grains in a peaceful and bustling environment. Buyers and sellers engaged in negotiations, while labourers loaded and unloaded goods onto trucks.

The governor had previously imposed a 24-hour curfew in Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru LGAs after protests on August 1, 2024, were hijacked by hoodlums who vandalized and looted public and private properties. Following an improvement in the security situation, Governor Buni announced a relaxation of the curfew, allowing activities from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m.

The restoration of normalcy and the return of market activities highlight the effective crisis management and leadership of Governor Buni during a challenging period for the state.
