Rotary Partners with Gombe State for Maternal and Child Health Week
Rotary, alongside various partners, has initiated health interventions aimed at enhancing maternal and child well-being in Gombe State. The launch event featured the distribution of essential health supplies, including drugs, de-worming medications, B-complex vitamins, mosquito nets, and free health screenings for sugar levels, blood pressure, and weight.
Mr. Mohammed Dantata Ndus, Rotary’s State Representative, emphasized that these services, available at no cost, are designed to encourage individuals to seek medical care. Rotary’s on-site services will refer patients with more serious conditions to appropriate facilities. The initiative also includes a community outreach during Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week.
The “Together for Family Health” program, currently in its pilot phase, is being implemented across Gombe, Ekiti, Nassarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory. Beneficiaries, such as Mrs. Fatima Umar Mohammed, have praised the support provided, including immunizations and mosquito nets.
In Gombe State, the program covers the Gombe and Yamaltu Deba Local Government Areas, with potential expansion based on success and funding. The Gombe State Commissioner of Health’s representative, Ibrahim Mohammed Jallo, highlighted the goal of reducing maternal and child mortality rates through these comprehensive health interventions.
