Sanwo-Olu and Ambode Discuss Lagos’ Future in a Historic Meeting

In a significant and unexpected development, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu met with his predecessor, Akinwunmi Ambode, at the Lagos House on Monday to discuss the future of the state. This rare meeting marks a potential reconciliation within the Lagos All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership, as Ambode has largely been absent from public events and political functions since leaving office in 2019.

Described as a “courtesy visit” by Governor Sanwo-Olu, the meeting is a notable shift in their relationship, which had been strained since Ambode’s loss in the 2019 governorship primary. Sanwo-Olu expressed his satisfaction with the discussion, stating on social media, “Our conversation centred around the future of Lagos and building on the solid foundation already in place. I value his perspective as we all work together to ensure that Lagos remains on the path of growth and development.”

This meeting comes over a year after the two last appeared together publicly at a reception for President Bola Tinubu in June 2023. Ambode’s reappearance in Lagos politics and his meeting with Sanwo-Olu have sparked hope for renewed cooperation among the state’s leaders, signaling a possible new era of unity and collaboration within the APC in Lagos.
