Sanwo-Olu Commends Lagosians for Peaceful Protests, Calls for Normalcy
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commended Lagosians for their peaceful conduct during recent protests across the state. Despite fears of potential disruptions, the protests were largely orderly, reflecting the community’s commitment to peace.
Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the grievances expressed, particularly regarding hunger, and assured residents that both federal and state governments are taking steps to address these issues. The Federal Government’s initiatives, such as opening the National Grains Reserve and suspending import duties on food items, are expected to alleviate food shortages and reduce prices.
At the state level, Governor Sanwo-Olu promised the return of popular Sunday Markets with a 25% discount on major food items, and the Medical Outreach program offering free treatments. He also reaffirmed the continuation of free delivery services for expectant mothers and a 25% reduction in fares on public transport.
Sanwo-Olu praised the professional conduct of security agencies and community leaders in maintaining peace. He encouraged Lagosians to resume their normal activities, assuring them of ongoing security and support from the government.
“The message of the protest – hunger in the land – has been well noted. It is, however, important to reiterate the fact that the Federal Government is taking steps to reverse the situation,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
The Governor’s efforts reflect a commitment to ensuring that Lagos remains a peaceful and prosperous state, even in challenging times.
