SEMA, UNDP, and TIWOD Collaborate to Enhance Skills Acquisition in Yobe State
On the 1st of March 2024, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Nigeria, and The Initiative for Women and Youth Development (TIWOD) joined forces with an expert from Japan to conduct a field visit to Tandari in Potiskum LGA. The purpose of the visit was to oversee the beneficiaries of skills acquisition programs and assess the impact of their training.
The field visit was conducted ahead of the KAIZEN Training, which aims to enhance the skills of beneficiaries in continuous improvement and waste reduction in their businesses. As part of the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) component of the projects, this visit was crucial for tracking progress, addressing challenges, and making necessary adjustments to improve outcomes.
The UNDP representative, an expert on 5S/Kaizen from Japan, emphasized the proactive nature of the field visit in enhancing the project’s success and identifying any gaps or challenges faced by the beneficiaries before the training. The training, scheduled to last four days, will focus on equipping participants with the necessary skills for business improvement.
During the visit, the team was impressed by the level of commitment demonstrated by the beneficiaries despite the challenges they faced. Beneficiaries engaged in various trades such as shoe making, tailoring, computer operations, and cosmetology and makeup, showcasing their dedication to applying the skills acquired.
The 5S/Kaizen Training has already commenced, and details regarding training objectives, outcomes, challenges, and successes will be shared in due course. This collaborative effort reflects a commitment to empowering individuals and fostering economic development in Yobe State.
