Sokoto Government Champions Breastfeeding for a Healthier Future
The Sokoto State Government, led by the Ministry of Health, has made a strong call for the promotion and support of breastfeeding, highlighting its critical role in shaping a healthier society. At this year’s World Breastfeeding Week, organized in collaboration with the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency and various development partners, the importance of breastfeeding was underscored as a powerful, life-saving act.
State Commissioner of Health, Hajiya Asabe Balarabe, emphasized that breastfeeding is not just a natural act but a crucial tool for saving lives. “Mothers have a crucial role to play in shaping the future of society through breastfeeding,” she stated.
Hajiya Asabe assured that the ministry would continue to support and promote breastfeeding initiatives in the state. “We are committed to creating a culture where breastfeeding is not just encouraged but celebrated as a cornerstone of maternal and child health,” she said. The commissioner was represented by Hajiya Shafa’atu Bello, the Coordinator of Reproductive Health at the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency.
Special Adviser to the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Alhaji Garba Bello, represented by Dr. Tukur Garba Magaji, Director of Community Health Services, reiterated the agency’s commitment to supporting health programs. He expressed gratitude to development partners for their contributions to the success of the 2024 World Breastfeeding Week.
Victor Osatogbe, the State Coordinator of FHI 360, speaking on behalf of development partners, advised mothers to adhere to the guidance provided by health personnel regarding breastfeeding.
