Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto PhD, fcna of Sokoto State has vehemently refuted claims of acquiring any foreign loans for developmental projects within the state. His statement comes in response to a report aired by BBC Hausa Service, which erroneously listed Sokoto among Northern states purportedly taking loans for infrastructure development.

Expressing profound dismay over Sokoto’s inclusion in the list, Governor Aliyu clarified that his administration has neither sought nor received any loans, either domestic or international, for project execution. He emphasized the necessity for accurate reporting, urging media outlets to verify information before dissemination.

“The BBC report was indeed misleading, and I expect them to verify the information they claimed to have gotten from the Debt Management Service before going on air,” Governor Aliyu asserted.

He challenged any individual or organization alleging loan acquisition by his administration to provide substantiated evidence. According to the governor, all projects undertaken across Sokoto State have been financed solely through monthly allocations from the federation account and internally generated revenue.

Governor Aliyu reiterated the prudent management of state resources, stating, “For now, we don’t need any loan before we execute projects because we are managing the little resources of the state very well.”

The governor’s remarks come in the wake of the BBC Hausa Service report erroneously attributing a foreign loan of $489 million to the Sokoto State government for developmental endeavors. He remains steadfast in his commitment to transparent governance and fiscal responsibility, dismissing any insinuations of financial impropriety in the administration’s operations.
