Spiro Officially Launches Electric Vehicles in Ogun
Spiro, Africa’s largest electric vehicle (EV) company, has officially launched its operations in Ogun State. The launch event, held on July 31, 2024, at the Arcade Ground, Ogun State Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, was attended by Governor Prince Adedapo Oluseun Abiodun, Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Hon. Minister of Transportation Sen. Said Alkali, traditional rulers, industry leaders, and key stakeholders. This event marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s electric mobility landscape.
Spiro’s strategic expansion into Nigeria will cover up to eight major provinces, including Abeokuta, Ibadan, Lagos, and Abuja, aiming to electrify mobility, reduce carbon emissions, and enhance the quality of life for Nigerians. With over 17,000 electric motorbikes already deployed across sub-Saharan Africa, Spiro’s battery swapping technology ensures riders have flexible and efficient energy solutions.
Spiro’s partnerships with Max, Dot, and Onocon will support the growth of Nigeria’s EV ecosystem, making EVs a viable option and promoting sustainable development. CEO Kaushik Burman emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, aiming to electrify mobility across Africa, with Nigeria as a crucial step.
Governor Dapo Abiodun endorsed Spiro’s initiative, highlighting the benefits of electric bikes in reducing environmental impact, economic savings, and improved community health. Spiro’s presence in key African markets, including Togo, Benin, Kenya, Rwanda, Ghana, and Uganda, and plans for further expansion, underscore its role in transforming transportation in Africa.
Spiro’s battery swapping model, allowing for quick battery replacements, eliminates the lengthy wait times associated with traditional charging, offering efficient and reliable transportation solutions. Governor Abiodun praised Spiro’s electric bikes as a sustainable venture, setting a green standard for transportation in Nigeria.
