Supreme Court Affirms Governor Sanwo-Olu’s Victory in Landmark Decision
In a landmark ruling, the Supreme Court upheld the election of Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the Governor of Lagos State. Justice Garba Lawal, delivering the judgment, dismissed the appeal filed by Labour Party candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, reaffirming the eligibility of the deputy governor to participate in the election.
Rhodes-Vivour’s 21 grounds of appeal challenging the State Governorship Tribunal’s decision were addressed, with the Appeal Court previously endorsing Sanwo-Olu’s reelection alongside Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat. The three-man panel, consisting of Justice Yargata Nimpa, Justice Samuel Bola, and Justice Paul Bassey, upheld the tribunal’s decision, solidifying Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat’s positions as Governor and Deputy Governor of Lagos State.
