HE Arákùnrin Rotimi Akeredolu, the Executive Governor of Ondo state has announced that it successfully secured €3.5 million and approximately $500,000 in funding from the World Bank to facilitate the rapid transformation of rural communities throughout the state. This financial allocation, which includes a N1.5 billion counterpart funding, will be allocated to the construction of 700 kilometers of rural roads as part of the Rural Access and Marketing Project (RAAMP), a program supported by the World Bank.

Kolawole Babatunde, the Special Adviser to the governor on Rural and Community Development, shared this information during an interactive session with the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Ondo State. Babatunde, who previously represented the Akoko South East/Akoko South West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019, explained that the construction of rural roads would occur in stages and receive funding from both the World Bank and the state’s counterpart fund.

He highlighted that the state government’s involvement in RAAMP is aimed at streamlining the transportation of agricultural products to minimize spoilage, address food scarcity, and enhance access for marketing and farming activities in rural areas of the state.
