Yobe Govt Responds to Gurjaje Community Communal Clash
In the wake of a disturbing clash and raid in Gurjaje community of Turmi/Maluri ward, Fika LGA on the early hours of February 13, 2024, the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) swiftly sprang into action. Collaborating with local government authorities and security teams, SEMA conducted a thorough spot assessment to gauge the extent of the situation.
Tragically, the findings revealed significant devastation, with 146 households and over a thousand individuals, including vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, children, persons with disabilities, and the elderly, affected and displaced to neighboring communities such as Maluri, Garin Ari, Dibbol, Bulaburin, and Fika.
The communal clash resulted in the destruction of over 89% of the community, with properties worth millions of Naira lost in the inferno. Regrettably, one casualty was reported, a 50-year-old deaf man, who succumbed to injuries inflicted by an arrow to the chest. Additionally, another individual sustained serious injuries.
In response to this tragic event, Yobe SEMA, under the directive of His Excellency, Governor [Governor’s Name], is intensifying efforts to provide immediate support to the victims. The agency is actively engaged in offering first-line assistance, including relocation and reintegration efforts aimed at restoring stability and normalcy to the affected community.
