The Yobe State government has embarked on an ambitious plan to bolster animal husbandry, particularly in the production of cows, goats, and sheep, aimed at ensuring food security for its populace. In a significant move, they have partnered with the renowned Trans Sahara consortium to realize this vision.

Under the terms of the agreement, Yobe State and Trans Sahara will collaborate for a period of five years, investing a substantial $2 billion into the project. The primary objective is to ramp up beef production and enhance market access for the state’s livestock products.

Yobe State boasts a significant population of livestock, notably cows, with Potiskum town serving as a prominent hub for cattle trade, recognized as one of the largest in Africa. To capitalize on this potential and further bolster the cattle industry, the state government has forged a strategic partnership with Trans Sahara.

The $2 billion investment will be channeled towards improving the conditions for raising livestock and optimizing beef production processes. Victor Terrah, the head of Trans Sahara, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting the transformative impact it is poised to have on the region’s agricultural landscape.

Representing Governor Buni, Baba Malam Wali articulated the government’s optimism regarding the initiative. He believes that the partnership will not only lead to increased cattle production but also contribute significantly to the economic growth of the state. Moreover, he emphasized the project’s role in ensuring food sufficiency for the people of Yobe.

With a target of producing thirty thousand cows monthly from key areas such as Potiskum, Nguru, and Damaturu, the project holds immense promise for driving agricultural productivity and economic prosperity in Yobe State. Through sustained collaboration and strategic investments, the government aims to harness the full potential of the livestock sector, thereby fostering sustainable development and ensuring food security for its citizens.
