Yobe State Poised to Host Successful 5th Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum
Yobe State, under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni, is intensifying preparations to host the highly anticipated 5th Edition of the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum. The state is taking significant steps to ensure a successful and impactful event, which will bring together key stakeholders from Nigeria, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon to discuss critical issues affecting the Lake Chad Basin region.
The Local Organizing Committee (LOC), led by Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali, Secretary to the Yobe State Government, held its inaugural meeting at the SSG’s Conference Hall in Damaturu. During the meeting, members from both Yobe and Borno State Governments, along with other key stakeholders, meticulously discussed logistical details and the structure of the upcoming forum, which is scheduled for the week of October 14 to 18, 2024.
The Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum serves as a regional platform for fostering cooperation, stabilization, peacebuilding, and sustainable development across the basin. Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali emphasized the strategic importance of the forum in promoting regional stability and development, expressing his confidence in the committee’s ability to deliver a well-organized and secure event. The Yobe State Government remains committed to ensuring that the forum serves as a platform for positive change and meaningful dialogue among the member states.
Key aspects discussed during the LOC meeting included venue selection, accommodation options for participants, security arrangements, logistics, and health services. The LOC also resolved to maintain close collaboration with the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) and other relevant agencies to ensure a seamless event. Governor Buni’s administration is dedicated to showcasing Yobe State’s hospitality and capability in hosting such a prestigious international event, underscoring the state’s leadership role in promoting regional peace and prosperity.
