Zulum Urges Federal Government to Reconsider Merger Decision
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has appealed to the Federal Government to reconsider its decision regarding the merger of the Army University Biu in Borno State with the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna State.
In a statement to journalists in Maiduguri, Governor Zulum stressed the importance of maintaining the autonomy of the Army University Biu, which has played a significant role in providing education, particularly in the North-East region affected by insurgency.
Governor Zulum also advocated for the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation in Kwara State to retain its independence, emphasizing its crucial role in promoting food security through the fabrication of agricultural tools and implements.
Expressing hope for a review of the decision, Governor Zulum urged the establishment of a technical committee to assess the implications and explore alternative measures.
Established in 2018, the Army University Biu serves as a vital educational institution, contributing to the socio-economic development of Borno State and the broader North-East region. Governor Zulum’s plea reflects the concerns of the people and underscores the importance of preserving institutions that contribute to national development.
